Who we are

Torus Lookup ("we", "us") is operated by Torus Lookup. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site and how we look after it. Questions? Use the contact page.

Information we collect

  • Browsing. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) used for security and to keep the site running.
  • Accounts. If you register: your name, username, email address and a securely hashed password. Your recovery key and two-factor secrets are stored in protected form and are never shown to us.
  • Submissions. Content you choose to publish — business listings, product lists, reviews, missing-person appeals and shared-interest posts — including any contact details you decide to include in them.
  • Contact form. Your name, email address, message and IP address, so we can respond and prevent abuse.
  • Security records. Sign-in attempts, sign-in locations and an audit trail of account activity, kept to protect your account.

How we use your information

To operate the directory and community features, to secure accounts (including two-factor authentication and sign-in alerts), to send service emails such as registration and password-reset notifications, and to respond when you contact us. We do not sell your personal information.

Public content — a special note

Listings, reviews, appeals and interest posts are public by design. Only include contact details you are comfortable sharing publicly. Missing-person appeals should use official channels (such as a police reference) wherever possible.

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept while your account is active. Sign-in attempt records are pruned automatically after 30 days. Published content remains until you remove it, it is moderated away, or your account is deleted.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and equivalent laws you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us and we'll help.

If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
